Social worker turned attorney Lindsey Burke has won her first political race. She is preparing herself for a seat in the Kentucky House’s 75th district. Burke defeated Chris Couch in Tuesday’s Primary to represent the Lexington area. Longtime Representative Kelly Flood decided not to seek re-election. Describing herself as a progressive, Burke noted it’s important to work across the aisle.

“And so, I’m never going to be the kind of person who gets so locked into what I think is right that I’m not willing to work together for what is the best. So, while I do consider myself to be a progressive Democrat, that’s never going to be something that defines exclusively how I act or think because I want to work together to make Kentucky a better place,” said Burke.

After working to help those dealing with homelessness, Burke said she’s passionate about steps the state can take in the affordable housing arena.
