City Of Richmond Public Works Department Quarentined After Employee Tested Positive For COVID-19

As Kentucky faces growing numbers of coronavirus cases, the need to quarantine those who have been exposed is disrupting local government services.

Last week, a Richmond public works employee tested positive for the virus. All twenty one workers in the department have been quarantined since then.

Richmond City Manager Rob Minerich says employees in other departments have tested positive in the past, but no other departments have needed to quarantine.

“This started back in early March for us. We adapt on a weekly basis. It doesn’t surprise me that it has happened because it seems like it’s really escalating at this time,” Minerich said.

Minerich says road repairs have been delayed until the public works department employees return. Richmond has a population of 36,000 and is 25 miles south of Lexington.
