Lexington’s council is expected to move Tuesday onto it’s docket the goals and objectives for the 2018 comprehensive plan. It’s this document that will help coordinate growth over the next five years.
Council met as a group for special ad hoc committee meetings three times in October to discuss the comp plan. One point of discussion was the former Shriner’s Hospital property along Richmond Road.
Council Member Jennifer Scutchfield wondered if it might be suitable for infill and redevelopment.
“I think if you’re truly trying to do infill and redevelopment, it should be citywide and yes there’s several areas inside the circle that should be considered when they are bought."
Planning Director Jim Duncan says the previous medical home for treating children is what he calls an "iconic development" with "appropriately-scaled buildings."
“People are very used to that, very comfortable with it. It’s a P-1 zoning, meaning it’s an office or medical use so I believe ideally something else like that would go in there that would be a similar use that had been there,” said Duncan.
Shriner’s Hospital made a move to a new location on Limestone Avenue last spring.
Wanda Rice with hospital professional relations says there is a confidentiality agreement with a potential buyer for the Richmond Road property.
