Madison Co Students Safe After School Bus Fire

WKYT-TV News Staff

Students from two Madison County Schools are safe after escaping a burning school bus.  Bus #222 caught fire Thursday afternoon.

The bus was transporting students from B. Michael Caudill Middle School and Madison Central High School home from school.

According to WKYT-TV, the vehicle caught fire at the Lexington Road overpass above I-75.

On Facebook and Twitter, officials with Madison County Schools reported that all 35 of the students on board exited the bus safely.

School officials say the driver stopped the bus at the first sign of smoke and evacuated the bus.

The school system sent another bus to continue the route. Officials think the fire started in the engine.
