Accessibility Focus of Lexington’s Newest Playground

Stu Johnson-WEKU News

The official unveiling of Lexington’s newest destination playground includes a focus on accessibility.  A ribbon cutting for the half million dollar complex at Jacobson Park took place Tuesday morning.

There was a bit of impatience on the part of children waiting for their first spin on the playground top.  Lexington Parks and Recreation Director Monica Conrad says the redone playground at Jacobson is almost double the size of the previous wooden structure.  “So, there’s poured in place surfacing that allows anyone who has a mobility issue to be able to access these playground features.”

Conrad says it also includes an easily assessable motion zone.  It features Lexington’s first playground to include a play area for children under the age of two.   General Services Commissioner Geoff Reed says the playground at Shillito Park is next in line for similar improvements.
