City and community leaders were on hand today in Lexington's Kenwick neighborhood to cut the ribbon on a revamped playground. Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says the improvements, totaling some $50,000 are made possible through a parks parity fund.
" slides, a loop climber, interactive play panels, a see-saw, and more to come. This project includes new benches, a new, ADA compliant sidewalk, all of which will provide convenient access to the park from Owsley Avenue or from Menifee Avenue."
The Kenwick Community Center gymnasium, across the street also got a badly needed multi-sport scoreboard thanks to a $2,000 allocation from Fifth District Urban County Councilman Bill Farmer's Neighborhood Development Fund. KCC Director Dwayne Rice says the kids really appreciate what others may take for granted.
"I've been at the Kenwick Center for the past eight years and its always thrilling to go to other places when they have scoreboards and our kids come in, where we're keeping scores in the scorebook, and we said where can we get some help, and we turned to Councilman Farmer, and lo and behold, we have a brand new scoreboard lit up in our gymnasium now.."
The Kenwick Community Center is also home to Tubby's Clubhouse, a computer training program for middle school youth.
