Kentucky Sets Weekly Record For Number Of COVID-19 Cases

Gov. Andy Beshear

In Kentucky, COVID-19 cases have risen sharply in recent days, with the state reporting its highest weekly case numbers since the pandemic began.

Kentucky reported more than 6,000 coronavirus cases last week. In a press conference on Monday, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said the state was in an escalation, and that’s why some the least populated areas are seeing spikes.

“And sometimes it's it's an area that hasn't had a lot of testing. And once it starts, you realize how much of the virus there is. But it also grows. And you there's some places that I think have been more lacks on wearing a mask, because they believe there hasn't been as much virus where they are,” he said.

Beshear said the state would step up enforcement of mask requirements. People caught without masks are subject to fines.
