Another Large Increase Reported In Lexington COVID-19 Cases

The Lexington community is experiencing significant increases in COVID-19 cases in July.  One day coronavirus case records were reached this week going from 62 reported cases Monday to 83 cases Thursday

Fayette Health Department Spokesman Kevin Hall said the spreading is happening in homes, long term care facilities, and bars, restaurants, and gyms.  Hall noted the health department’s enforcement of Governor Beshear’s mandate to wear masks in most public places will be complaint driven. “We are not taking our notepads out and citing up individuals on the sidewalk who aren’t wearing masks.  This will be very similar to the smoking ordinance in Lexington.  If a business is letting people come in without a mask and we receive complaints, we’ll meet with the business management to make sure that they’re following the guidelines.  If there are repeat offenders that’s when the penalties and fines start getting put in place,” said Hall.

Hall advises citizens to not take any frustrations out on store employees who are meeting the government requirements.
