More than two dozen utility workers are expected to return to the bluegrass Friday after working to restore power in Puerto Rico. Some 30 Kentucky Utilities and Louisville Gas and Electric employees spent more than a month in the hurricane ravaged U.S. territory.
Kentucky Utilities Spokesman Daniel Lowery says line workers, safety specialists, and other personnel worked in a mountainous region south of San Juan. “Imagine leaving cold Kentucky and then going to 90 degree hot humid jungle type temperatures and then working every day for 16 hours a day or what. So, they really worked hard and we’re very proud of them,” said Lowery.
Lowery says this crew was the second wave of K-U and L-G and E employees to travel to Puerto Rico. He says it represents a mutual assistance program. Lowery says when Kentucky experiences storm damage, crews from other states lend a hand in the Commonwealth.
