University of Kentucky HealthCare will require anyone who works or trains at its facilities to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
UK HealthCare made the announcement on Wednesday. The COVID-19 vaccine will be required for all staff, health care providers, learners, trainees, and people working at UK HealthCare facilities.
In a statement, University of Kentucky Executive Vice President for Health Affairs Dr. Mark Newman said, “This reinforces the importance of vaccination and, we hope, encourages more vaccination throughout the Commonwealth. Vaccination is the primary way to put the pandemic behind us and avoid the return of stringent public health measures.”
Workers should have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and a second dose scheduled by Sept. 15.
The requirement includes an exemption for medical and religious reasons.
Baptist Health will also require staff to get the shot.
The American Medical Association is calling for the COVID-19 vaccination to be required for all health care workers.
