Cooling Centers in Kentucky
A list of resources to escape the heat in Central and Eastern Kentucky:
Richmond:
Salvation Army, 1675 East Main Street, Saturday, July 20: open as cooling center from noon to 4.
First Presbyterian Church, Tuesdays through August, 11 - 3.
First United Methodist Church, Wednesdays through August, 11 - 3.
Lexington Emergency Management has activated its Phase 2 Heat Alert. This plan is in effect through Sunday, July 21.
Lexington Parks and Recreation will offer half-price pool admission through Sunday, July 21.
Lextran will provide free rides to shelters and cooling centers through Sunday, July 21.
The Dunbar Community Center, 545 N. Upper Street, will open as a cooling center through Sunday, July 21. Exact hours will be posted.
The Lexington Senior Center, 195 Life Lane, will open as a cooling center on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21. Exact hours of operation will be announced on Friday.
On Thursday and Friday, commercial waste collection pickups will begin at 3 a.m. and residential pickups will start at 4 a.m. These times will reduce employees’ risk of heat-related injuries such as dehydration and other heat-related illnesses by finishing all routes before temperatures peak.
Pike County:
Senior Citizens Center open from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday as a cooling center.
