Dark Money - The Movie

Together Frankfort invites everyone to a screening of the movie, Dark Money, Wednesday, November 3, 6:30 PM in the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, Brown Foreman Room, 100 W. Broadway, Frankfort, KY (click link for directions). Following the film, participants are encouraged to engage in a group discussion (socially distanced) led by Richard Taylor. Because of COVID-19 rules, we must limit audience size. Although attendance is FREE, please pre-register so we can accurately plan for the event. Masks are required & the room will be set up for social distancing. DARK MONEY, a political thriller, examines one of the greatest present threats to American democracy: the influence of untraceable corporate money on our elections and elected officials. The film takes viewers to Montana—a frontline in the fight to preserve fair elections nationwide—to follow an intrepid local journalist working to expose the real-life impacts of the US Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. Through this gripping story, DARK MONEY uncovers the shocking and vital truth of how American elections are bought and sold. This Sundance award-winning documentary is directed/produced by Kimberly Reed (PRODIGAL SONS) and produced by Katy Chevigny (E-TEAM). During 2017, Together Frankfort's first year as an organization, the leadership decided to conduct a year - long examination of dark money in politics. Check the website at www.togetherfrankfort.org to read more about these events, which included: ~ A meeting with Kentucky's 3rd District Congressman John Yarmuth, who has sponsored legislation to address the issue of dark money; ~ A guided discussion of Jane Meyer's book, Dark Money; ~ A presentation from a representative of the League of Women Voters of Kentucky; ~ Presentations from national organizations working to address money in politics, through Congressional action, including proposals for a Constitutional amendment ~ A panel discussion with presenters from several national and regional organizations, who have worked to address money in politics.
