5th annual Wild & Scenic Red RiverFest

5th annual Wild & Scenic Red RiverFest

5th Annual Wild & Scenic Red RiverFest 5/21/22 Join the Friends of Red River and Kentucky Waterways Alliance for the 5th annual Wild & Scenic Red RiverFest on 5/21/22 from 10-6 at Clay City Park and afterparty from 7-10 at Sky Bridge Station. Red RiverFest is a FREE, family friendly event to celebrate the only waterway in Kentucky that has this invaluable designation from the National Wild & Scenic River System which keeps Red River free-flowing and protected. Red RiverFest is in a different location each year to enjoy all that our 96 mile river has to offer. This year’s event at Clay City Park includes the 4mile Clay City Loop Fun Float, live music, vendors (food, drink, and other), kids activities including rock climbing wall from 10a-12p and inflatable water slide from 12-6, prizes, and more! There are fun and interactive clean water presenters from EKU, Trout Unlimited, Division of Water, Red Oaks Forest School, KY Riverkeeper, Daniel Boone National Forest, UK Cooperative Extension, KY River Watershed Watch, and more. At noon there will be a Red River Watershed mural dedication for the new, beautiful, collaborative KWA/KY Arts Council/Red Oaks Forest School student mural that shows Red River’s valuable habitat, critters that rely on clean water, and our community connection through our waterways. We’re proud and thankful for the wonderful partners that make this event possible: Kentucky Waterways Alliance, Friends of Red River, Powell County SAR, Clay City Fire Dept, other SAR teams and local partner, West Sixth Brewing, Daniel Boone Coffee Shop, and more. Red RiverFest is presented by Clay City Tourism, Stanton Tourism, Wolfe County Tourism, Powell County Tourism, and Kentucky River Authority. Red River Watershed Coordinator for Kentucky Waterways Alliance and Friends of Red River board secretary, Laura Gregory, says, “We are thrilled to bring Wild & Scenic Red RiverFest back in full this year! We hope to see lots of community and visitors at the event. There’s something for everyone. It’s FREE and supports the good work we are doing to protect, restore and celebrate our Red River. We all need to do our part so Red River is CLEAN for drinking, swimming, and fishing.”
