Scamming Activity Follows Security Breech at Anthem

hoax-slayer.com

The investigation into the security breach of Anthem Insurance continues.  While that is itself is a concern, there are now reports of scams related to this cyber attack.  Heather Clary with the Better Business Bureau of Eastern and Central Kentucky says don't open any emails that appear to be from Anthem.  Clary says establishing credit protection is a good first step. "Take advantage of any free credit monitoring that Anthem offers to you, if you are an effected customer.  Now, this won't be the end all, be all if protection, but it will, at least, alert you if action is happening on your account,"  said Clary.

Anthem Communications Director for Kentucky Mark Robinson says the company will be providing information about credit and identity protection in the next few days.

Clary with says complaints about phishing activity have been received.  She says the scam involves emails appearing to come from Anthem.  "Don't click on any links within the email.  Don't open any attachments because they could contain viruses or lead you to places that will part you with your personal information to these con artists by tricking you into thinking that they are with Anthem," added Clary.

Mark Robinson says it's difficult to say how many Kentuckians are impacted by the security breach.
