Residents in more than 30 Kentucky counties were impacted by severe storms that brought in the new year. Union City in Madison County was one community impacted by severe weather. Emergency Management Director Dustin Heiser said 18 houses sustained some form of damage and a couple had roofs blown off.

“We utilized the FEMA damage assessment systems. So, to be exact as to how that fits in to, whether you call that, technically destroyed, yes there probably is some homes that are inhabitable,” said Heiser.

Heiser said efforts will be undertaken to see if any of these storm victims qualify for federal assistance. He noted a number of agencies jumped into action that day to clear roads and help with clean up.

The emergency management official added anyone with yet-to-be assessed damages can contact the EMA at 859-624-4756.
