River Surges In Mississippi; Endeavour Arrives At Space Station

The surging Mississippi River is next expected to crest in Vicksburg, Mississippi tomorrow, according to CNN. It'll reach nearly one foot above previous records set in 1927. But the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers warns river water will remain very high for several more weeks. The U.S. Coast Guard has reopened river traffic near Natchez, Louisiana. It was closed yesterday to prevent barges from running into levees.

The space shuttle Endeavour docked at the international space station today. The crew will start a 12-day mission with the station crew to install equipment, including one instrument that will scan space for unusual material that can't be detected by regular telescopes, says Reuters. Endeavour also has spare parts for the space station.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is "not in a position" to run the world organization and suggested the International Monetary Fund should set up a new leadership plan. The Wall Street Journal notes DSK, as he's known, remains jailed in New York on charges of sexual assault.
