Monthly Music Tip: May Madness

"Spinster Sister"
Natisha Shpaner
"Spinster Sister"

Had enough of Eurovision? Hats off to Lena for giving Deutschland her best.

Now here's your chance to get a dose of something radically different.

How about some some "parlour punk?" Sister Chain and Brother John will be playing at Ex'n Pop Potsdamer Strasse 157, Berlin 10783 on May 21st.

If you miss it, Sister Chain will also be playing next month with her sister "Spinster Sister" as "Sister Chain and Sister Swamp" at the King Kong Klub on June 2nd and at 7 Stufen June 5th. The set at 7 Stufen will be acoustic. I have played at 7 Stufen, and I highly recommend this cosy little neighborhood kneipe. Small stage, small room, so get there on time if you want to sit.

Not into "Parlour Punk?" How about the incredible folk-based "Brothers Unconnected?" Duo Alan Bishop and Richard Bishop play Tuesday, May 17th at the Monarch Club. "Brothers Unconnected" used to perform as the trio Sun City Girls until the tragic death of their bandmate. They incorporate a myriad of music influences from all over the world into their music. (Highly Recommended) Skalitzer Straße 134. 10999 Berlin

Frank Fairfield will be playing his instrumental new-folk at White Trash on May 26th. While you're catching his flair of Americana, how about some real American chow? White Trash has one of the best burgers in town. (The owner is from California...)

If you're in the mood for something more commercial and home grown, rapper Bushido is playing at Huxley's Neue Welt, Hasenheide 107, 10967 on May 28th.

One of my favorites, Marianne Faithful, is coming to town on 29th of May. Catch the Grande Dame at Zitadelle Spandau, Am Juliusturm 64, 13599 Berlin-Spandau.
