Obama Birth Certificate Was Like Kryptonite To Birtherism

When President Obama decided to make public a copy of his actual birth certificate, some people thought it was a mistake for him to do so, that he was needlessly dignifying those on the fringe who doubted he was born in Hawaii.

Looks like the president's political instincts were solid.

The Washington Post reported Thursday that a new poll found that the percentage of those surveyed who believe that Obama was born outside the U.S. dropped to 10 percent from 20 percent after the White House made available a copy of the document.

Among those who identified themselves as Republicans, the number who held onto the idea that Obama wasn't a native-born U.S. citizen dropped to 14 percent from 31 percent. Conservative Republicans dropped to 16 percent from 35 percent.
